Brazil exported 31.443 billion U.S. dollars of agricultural products in the first six months this year, figures released by the Ministry of Agriculture on Monday showed.
Exports in June stood at 7.337 billion dollars, 12 percent higher than the same period last year, making it the second best month in Brazil's history, only behind last July when exported around 7.900 billion dollars.
Asian customers bought 27.1 percent of Brazil's agricultural products, and overtook the European Union to become the first destination for Brazilian agricultural products in history.
China accounted for 16.9 percent of agricultural exports from the South American country and was placed as its biggest market, followed by the Netherlands (7.6 percent), the United States (7.0 percent), Russia (4.4 percent) and Germany (4.1 percent), according to the figures.
As for agricultural imports, Brazil reduced its purchases by 9.6 percent to 5.087 billion dollars in the first half of this year, which was caused by the fall of wheat prices on the international market, the ministry said.
