Norway is implementing a number of measures to strengthen the administration of Norwegian development funds and the fight against corruption, said Norwegian Minister of the Environment and International Development Erik Solheim Sunday.
"Many countries in need of our development cooperation have weak social structures and widespread corruption. But we must constantly seek to ensure better control of our development funds," Erik Solheim said to the local media.
He presented a number of new measures to strengthen the administration of Norwegian development funds. They include establishing a new whistle-blowing channel on Jan. 1, 2008 and a central control unit to ensure that the Ministry's instructions, systems and routines for financial management are adequate and are followed.
