German conglomerate Siemens plans to cut up to 7,000 jobs worldwide in its telecommunications unit, local media reported Monday.
Around 4,000 jobs, including 2,000 in Germany, will be cut, and another 3,000 employees, including 1,000 in Germany, will be shifted to other units owned by Siemens or its partners, according to German news agency DPA.
The Munich-based Siemens has been under pressure to sell its telecommunications unit Siemens Enterprise Networks, which has been losing sales and customers.
The jobs cut is considered a step to make the unit more attractive to potential buyers, DPA said. Source:Xinhua
