The unemployment rate in the eurozone remained at a record low of 7.1 percent in March, the European Union (EU) statistics bureau Eurostat said Wednesday. According to revised figures from Eurostat, the figure remained unchanged from the previous two months and the lowest level since the indicator was introduced in 1993, and much lower than the 7.5 percent registered a year ago.
In the 27-nation EU, the unemployment rate also remained stable at 6.7 percent in March. It was 7.3 percent in March 2007.
Among EU member states, the Netherlands recorded the lowest unemployment rate of 2.6 percent. The jobless rate in Germany, the largest economy in the eurozone, dropped to 7.3 percent, down from7.4 percent in February, while France's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 7.8 percent.
The Eurostat estimated that there were 15.993 million people unemployed in the EU in March, of which 10.930 million were in the eurozone.
