France's gross domestic product (GDP)accelerated sharply during the first quarter of 2008, posting an impressive growth of 0.6 percent compared to 0.3 percent recorded in the last quarter of 2007, the National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) announced on Thursday.
Further in rather optimistic move, France's leading statistics institute has revised upwards the growth forecast for 2007 to 2.1 percent from the previous estimate of 1.9 percent, according to reliable sources.
"Therefore, the expected growth during the following quarters, which is the level of economic expansion to be reached except in case of severe recession, is set to reach 1.4 percent at the end of March 2008," according to an earlier INSEE estimate.
