Austrian and Vietnamese leaders said Monday they would deepen bilateral ties and economic cooperation, local media reported.
Austrian President Heinz Fischer held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Minh Triet on Monday on how to deepen bilateral economic relations.
Triet, who began a three-day state visit to Austria on Monday, was accompanied by a large economic delegation. He will attend a Vietnam-Austria economic forum on Tuesday.
The two leaders also exchanged views on relations between the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
The visiting president is scheduled to meet with Austrian Prime Minister Alfred Gusenbauer on Tuesday.
Economic relations between Austria and Vietnam have developed rapidly in recent years.
In 2007, Austria's exports to and imports from Vietnam increased by 21 percent and 16.5 percent respectively, according to figures released by Austrian authorities.
To attract more foreign investment, the Vietnamese government has also made efforts in recent years to improve the investment environment.
