Hungary's currency forint hit an all-time high shortly after 6 p.m. local time on Thursday, at 234.65 forints to 1 euro.
According to reports of Hungarian News agency MTI, this breaks a record set in Jan. 2003, of 234.69 forints to the euro, triggered by a period of speculation.
On Feb. 26, 2008 the Hungarian central bank scrapped the trading band which set a floor of 240.01 and a ceiling of 324.71 per euro. It has been floating freely and appreciating ever since.
