The European Commission will issue a second warning on France for banning online sales of optical products and glasses, said the commission on Thursday.

Under current French legislation, online sales of such products even by qualified dispensing opticians are actually impossible and the authorities require all qualified operators to register their diploma with related institutions.

The French legislation, which "restricts freedom of establishment and free movement of services," must be amended, said the commission, the executive body of the European Union (EU).

France may be taken to court if it fails to reply or its reply is deemed unsatisfactory by the commission.
