The FTSE 100 index in the London stock market jumped about 5 percent on Monday opening with banking shares among some of the largest gainers after news of the latest government rescue plan.
The benchmark FTSE 100 index was up 194.41 points, or 4.94 percent, to 4,126.47 by 8:30 BST.
Barclays rose 11.6 percent and Lloyds TSB added 11.4 percent after news of the British government's 370-billion-pound (about 630 billion U.S. dollars) plan to recapitalize the banks. Source:Xinhua
