Denmark's central bank Nationalbanken decided on Thursday to lower its leading rate by half a percentage point to 5 percent, according to reports reaching here from Copenhagen.
The discount rate and the interest rate on the banks' current accounts with Nationalbanken would be also lowered by half a percentage point to 4 percent, Nationalbanken said in a statement.
The reductions take effect on Friday.
The interest rate reduction is a consequence of the lowering by half a percentage point to 3.25 percent in the European Central Bank's minimum bid rate on the main refinancing operations, Nationalbanken added.
Nationalbanken had raised its lending rate on Oct. 24 to 5.5 percent in a move to "support the Danish krone."
