The European Union (EU) recorded a surplus of 84.1 billion euros (108.5 billion U.S. dollars) in external trade in services, compared with 68.5 billion euros (88.4billion dollars) in 2006, the EU's statistics bureau Eurostat said on Thursday.
The figure was also higher than a surplus of 54.1 billion euros(70 billion dollars) in 2005.
Eurostat said the increased surplus in 2007 was mainly due to higher surpluses in financial services, which rose to 30.8 billion euros (40 billion dollars) from 24.2 billion euros (31.2 billion dollars) in 2006.
Surpluses in transportation, computer and information services, insurance services and construction services also grew, while deficits in personal, cultural and recreational services and communications services decreased. But the improvements were partially offset by increased deficits in travel and royalties and license fees, according to Eurostat.
