Financial shares helped boosted the London stock market on Friday, with the FTSE ending the day on 4,228.01 up 61.91 points, or 1.46 percent
The Standard Chartered topped the rising shares with 10.12 percent gains, followed by First Group, which saw a 6.67 percent rise.
Drug companies AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline rose over 5 percent after an EU report on generic competition did not impose specific penalties.
The Royal Bank of Scotland ended the day nearly unchanged despite falling over 6 percent at one point during the day.
Lonmin, the miner, was the biggest faller with a 6.68 percent loss after the world's third largest platinum producer said that it plans to cut 4,000 jobs in South Africa.
