Eurozone industrial producer prices down in April

Industrial producer prices dropped in April by 1.0 percent month-on-month in the 16-nation Eurozone, the European Union (EU)'s statistics agency Eurostat said on Wednesday.

In the 27-nation EU, industrial producer prices decreased by 1.1 percent month-on-month in April, the agency said.

Industrial producer prices dropped by 4.6 percent year-on-year in the Eurozone and by 3.9 percent year-on-year in the EU.

Compared with March, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector fell by 0.4 percent in the Eurozone and by 0.3 percent in the EU in April. Prices in the energy sector fell by 3.0 percent and 3.5 percent respectively.

In both the Eurozone and the EU, prices of intermediate goods declined by 0.6 percent, while that of durable consumer goods and non-durable consumer goods decreased by 0.1 percent.

Prices of capital goods dropped by 0.2 percent in the Eurozone and by 0.1 percent in the EU.

Among the member states for which data were available, only Ireland and Greece registered increases on a monthly basis, while Malta recorded the sharpest fall of 11.1 percent.
