Industrial production in the euro zone fell by 0.3 percent in July compared with the previous month, the European Union (EU)'s statistics bureau Eurostat said on Monday.
In July, production of non-durable consumer goods in the euro zone increased by 0.7 percent on monthly basis and intermediate goods grew by 0.3 percent, while durable consumer goods and production of energy fell by 0.8 percent and 1.2 percent respectively. Capital goods registered the biggest monthly drop of1.8 percent.
Compared with July 2008, industrial production in the 16 EU nations that use the euro declined by 15.9 percent.
In the 27-nation EU, industrial production decreased by 0.2 percent month on month in July and by 14.7 percent year on year.
Among the member states for which data were available, industrial production rose in ten, fell in nine and remained stable in Romania. The most significant fall was registered in Luxembourg, which was 3.1 percent, while the highest increase was registered in Ireland, which was 8.7 percent.
