A special key scientific research project relating to water pollution control and treatment with a total investment of 35.65 billion yuan has made positive progress, according to the 13th World Lake Conference press briefing held on October 13.
"We have achieved preliminary results in the research on international technological issues including the dredging and treatment of silt and the normal drainage of rainwater, and will industrialize the results in 2010." According to Jin Xiangcan, a researcher at the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, the special research on lakes is progressing smoothly, and systematic analysis and diagnosis on lakes is being actively carried out. A special research group has also developed and acquired independent intellectual property rights for an internationally-advanced system for observing lake wildlife, and closely observing the growth patterns of lake algae. This will help eliminate the blue-green algae contamination that affects many lakes.
