Samsung has finally detailed a plan to recall its fridges in the Chinese mainland. The State General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection said on November 6 that Samsung (China) Investment Co. Ltd. will make a voluntary recall of six models of Samsung's double-door refrigerators from November 10. A total of 32,000 refrigerators in the Chinese mainland are involved in the recall.

Samsung said that the flawed defrost system in these refrigerators may lead to a short-circuit within the system, which could be damaging to refrigerators and in extreme cases may cause an accident. It was therefore decided that six models of double-door refrigerators produced in South Korea between June 2007 and May 2008, namely RSH1STPE1, RSH1STSW1, RSH1VTPE1, RSH1VTSW1, RSH1ZLAW1 and RSH1ZTPE1 will be recalled. Engineers will provide a free on-site maintenance service for existing products by adding fuse to exclude the possible existence of hidden dangers.

Samsung confirmed that the product model which caused incident in South Korea is not sold in China, but the above-mentioned six types have a similar design and construction. About 32,000 of these refrigerators have been sold in China.

It is reported that double-door refrigerators produced in Samsungs Suzhou factory and those which were not imported between June 2007 and May 2008 didn't use the flawed design.
