U.S. magazine Fortune published list of China's top 10 companies based on 2008 data on October 13. Sinopec, with 208 billion U.S. dollars sales revenue ranked first, followed by PetroChina with sales revenue of 181 billion U.S. dollars. State Grid came in third place with income of 164 billion U.S. dollars.
It is worth mentioning that China's four state-owned commercial banks all enter the list. Industrial and Commercial Bank of China came in fourth place with operating income of 71 billion U.S. dollars. China Construction Bank ranked No. 6 with operating income of 58 billion U.S. dollars. Bank of China ranked No. 8, and its operating income reached 51 billion U.S. dollars. Agricultural Bank of China ranked No. 9 with operating income of 48 billion U.S. dollars.
Another three companies in the list are: China Mobile Communications Corporation, with sales of 65 billion U.S. dollars, ranking No. 5. China Life Insurance Company achieved sales of 55 billion U.S. dollars, ranked No. 7. Sinochem Group came in the 10th place with 2008 sales of 44 billion U.S. dollars.
This China's top 10 companies list launched by English version of Fortune magazine is different from last week's China's Most Admired Companies list released by the Chinese version of the magazine. The main basis for the rankings of China's top 10 companies is the company's operating revenue.
