Japan bagged three gold and two silver medals in the women's freestyle wrestling late Saturday night in the ongoing 2007 Asian Jr. Wrestling championships at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila, reported the official Philippine News Agency on Sunday.
Kajita Mizuka, Nishi Nodoka and Kuneida Mika ruled their respective weight class as the 42-member Japan contingent recovered from only two-bronze finish in the opening day Friday of the 15-nation event, said the report.
The Vietnamese women wrestlers also won two golds and two silvers while Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei had one gold each.
Nguyen Thi Loc upset Sakai Noriko of Japan, 9-3, in the 44kg finals and Le Thi Trang overpowered Hsin Hua Chen of Chinese Taipei, 3-0, in the 51kg finals.
Host Philippines continued to falter in search for its first medal as Joan Lonosa and Noemi Tener lost their respective matches for bronze medal in the freestyle event of the three-day competition sponsored jointly by the Department of Tourism and private companies in Manila.
