Mexico's sporting press cheered two national soccer victories on Monday: defeating Paraguay 6-0 in the Copa America and beating New Zealand 2-1 in the under-20 World Cup.

Mexico's Copa win was in part due to numerical superiority after Paraguay's goalkeeper Aldo Bobadilla was sent off in minute three.

Veteran Mexico sports daily Esto headlined "6-0 makes history" in enormous letters listing the Copa semi-finals as Mexico versus Argentina and Brazil versus Uruguay. It had special praise for forward Nery Castillo, who had scored two goals.

Another sporting paper Ovaciones, headlined its first page "Perfect", saying that Mexico had made its own luck as the Paraguayans faded fast. "It's a rare result but it is ours," the paper said.

"And the boys as well," it added describing Mexico's unbroken run of victories in Canada.

Mainstream paper Reforma headlined "6-0 and its not a dream", saying that Mexico had won by the widest margin every seen in the Copa.

Inside it featured Castillo, who scored two goals as the second highest scorer of the tournament with four goals in total.

El Universal headline with saying that the Tri (as the team is known here) "crushes rivals and wins through to the semi-finals". Its sports section carried the headline "Venga Che"(Bring it on, Pals). Its headline for the under-20s was "The kids win and have Congo to follow".

Daily paper Milenio carried a photo of Castillo embracing fellow goalscorer Gerardo Torrado, famous in Mexico for his plentiful hair. The headline was a play on words "De Pelos", which means both "hairy" and "excellent" in Mexican slang.

In the paper's middle pages, Mexico's manager, Hugo Sanchez, described the match as "very easy" but said the team's next match, against Argentina, will be as tough as the final.
