Co-hosts Indonesia played a tight match and beat Bahrain 2-1 in Group D of 2007 Asian Cup on Tuesday, evoking passionate cheering from about 30,000 fans. Only 14 minutes into the game, Indonesia's Firman Utina passed ball to Budi Sudarsono who beat Bahrain's goalkeeper easily to lift the hosts to 1-0 lead. After losing one goal, Bahrain made use of their body advantage to strengthen offense, and equalized the score in the 27th minute in a goalmouth melee. After the interval, Indonesia played more aggressively and made some threatening shots. They gradually overwhelmed the vigor of guests and controlled the game. The advantage turned to a splendid goal at the 64th minute while a long-range shot from Indonesia hit the doorcase, and Indonesian star striker Bambang Pamungkas netted the winning goal. Although Bahrain tried to beat back in the remaining time, and also once hit the doorcase, they finally failed to overpower Indonesians.
