Co-hosts Vietnam forced Qatar, who had an upper hand in most of the time of its second game at the AFC Asian Cup here Thursday evening, to accept a draw of 1-1.

Qatar deployed the pressing style right from the start, but Vietnamese striker Phan Thanh Binh scored the opening goal in the 32nd minute with a moderate shoot from close range. Qatar goalie Mohamed Ahmed did not catch the ball tightly so it moved slowly into the goal.

Qatar striker Andres Quintana, standing within the box, equalized the score in the 79th minute with a decisive header.

Vietnamese goalkeeper Duong Hong Son made at least five nice saves during the match.

Japan will clash the United Arab Emirates at Vietnam's My Dinh National Stadium in the third Group B match on Friday.
