Co-host Thailand topped Group A after a well-earned 2-0 win over Oman while Vietnam remained undefeated after the 1-1 draw with Qatar at Asian Cup on Thursday. Substitute Pipat Thonkanya became the hero of Thailand with his two goals, pushing the co-host a big step forward for the knock-out stage. The win sent the home crowd into raptures at Rajamangala National Stadium. The 28-year-old smashed the ball home in the 70th minute following a cross by substitute Teerathep Winothai. Teerathep won an aerial challenge eight minutes later to present Pipat with his second goal who chested the ball down and blasted it into the net again. Thailand now leads the pool on four points with Australia and Iraq on one point each. The latter two teams will play each other Friday.
In Hanoi, co-host Vietnam gained advantage after the whistle and launched relentless attacks against Qatar.
