But Nigeria''s NOC Secretary General, Olabanji Oladapo, said Besse was the greatest joker of the on-going Games. He said: "I can bet my last cash that Besse will be forced to eat his words."

"I am confident that given the team on ground, the athletic team will not leave anything to chance. It will be a shame if we allow Ethiopia to dominate its traditional area and then diminish Nigeria in the sprints," he said.

According to the secretary general, Nigeria has virtually dominated athletics, particularly the sprints. Indeed, she has never had a challenge in that area since the first Games in Kinshasa, Congo, in 1965, right to the last Games in Abuja in 2003.
