Japan downed host Vietnam 4-1, while the United Arab Emirates (UAE) defeated Qatar 2-1 in Group B matches at the AFC Asian Cup on Monday evening.

Just seven minutes into the match, Vietnamese midfielder Phan Van Tai Em converted a powerful free kick into the opening goal.

Being led 1-0 in advance, Japan strengthened their attacks, and their efforts were paid off when striker Maki Seiichiro equalized the score with a powerful shot from close range five minutes later.

In the 32th minute, midfielder Endo Yashuhito converted a skillful close free kick, giving a 2-1 lead to Japan.

After the break, Japan with better physical strength and personal skills continued having an upper hand. They extended the lead with the 3rd goal netted by midfielder Nakamura Shunsuke in the 53th minute, and the 4th by striker Maki Seiichiro in the 59th minute.

Also on Monday evening, the UAE defeated Qatar 2-1 in a match in the Military Zone 7 Stadium in Vietnam's southern Ho Chi Minh City.

In group B, Japan had seven points, and Vietnam with four points, becoming the two teams winning berths in the quarter-final of the Asian Cup.
