China is likely to overrun Uzbekistan in a hard-fought game on Wednesday though a tie is enough to lift them to the Asian Cup quarter-finals.
While Iran is expected to gain an easy win against Malaysia, China has to face a tough clash against Uzbekistan whose only chance to qualify is to win.
Chinese captain Zheng Zhi and key defender Li Weifeng miss the match due to accumulation of yellow cards, which will weaken Chinese control of the midfield as well as its back four. The performance of defense will be important for China as Uzbekistan is expected to concentrate on attacks. Chinese head coach Zhu now faces the hard decision to make changes to China''s midfield and defense. "China has enough substitutes to replace Zheng and Li, and hopefully we will perform better in the next match," said Zhu at a news conference after a 2-2 draw with Iran. But Uzbekistan is no easy rival. The central Asians smashed Malaysia 5-0 after narrowly losing to Iran 1-2. [1] [2]
