After that rainy and steepy stage, Davis lost the yellow jersey he had worn for the previous two stages. "Now, our aim is to win more stages and to keep the jerseys on hand," said Li, the first Chinese to join a UCI pro team.
Davis still kept the leading sprinter''s green jersey with 78 points and Li''s blue jersey standing for the Asian best rider was unchallenged.
Italian veteran Gabriele Missaglia from Serramenti Pvc of Venezuela grabbed back the yellow jersey from DFL''s British Daniel Lloyd. But the 37-year-old former Giro d''Italia competitor only took a 0.02 second advantage in an overall time of 21:58:52.
Nevertheless, Missaglia said, "I think I''m very likely to hold the yellow jersey until finish."
Missaglia''s teammate Sergio Barbero obtained the polka dot jersey for the successively third time with 14 points from the king of mountain sessions.
As the only one UCI pro team at Tour de Qinghai Lake, the Discovery Channel team only managed a sixth position in the team ranking with a result of 66:13:45. Lloyd''s DFL team was placed second in the team ranking, Spain''s Relax-Gam led the 21 teams in 66 hours.
The 151km seventh stage between Xining and Menyuan is described as the most difficult stage since the beginning of the tour. The competitors will be challenged by the high Daban Mountain with an altitude of 3,792 meters.
