The Rio de Janeiro Justice Tribunal on Thursday ruled that people can bring their own food to the Pan American Games, something that had been banned by the organizers, Rio newspaper O Globo said.

Judge Jose Figueiredo backed Rio's state attorney, which brought the case, ordering that the ruling take effect on Thursday. Glass bottles remain barred from events. The attorney began an investigation into the organizers' decision last week.

"This is a way of forcing a choice of what to consumer and is illegal in civil law," prosecutor Rodrigo Terra said.
