Kenya's veteran distance runner Edith Masai, who won the women's 10,000m silver at the ninth All Africa Games, said the Games was her last appearance on track and she would concentrate on marathon running, Kenyan media reported on Monday.
"I have run enough on track and I am satisfied with myself. I am now looking at the Osaka marathon next month," she said, referring to the upcoming World Athletics Championships, slated for from Aug. 25 to Sept. 2 in Osaka of Japan. The 40-year-old Masai said running in Algiers, where the four-yearly Africa Games was held, was part of her speed work preparation ahead of the world championship marathon. Masai won the silver medal on Saturday in the women's 10,000 meters by clocking 31 minutes and 31.18 seconds. The gold went to Mestawet Tufa of Ethiopia, who crossed the finish line 5.13 seconds ahead of Masai. "I took the pace with her (Mestawet). She is younger than me but I tried to keep up with her until the end," Masai was quoted by Kenya's Daily Nation as saying. So far, Masai's best achievements have been three individual gold medals in the annual IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
