Canada replaced the United States as the biggest winner of Tuesday's athletics competitions by winning two out of five gold medals on offer at the Pan American Games.
The Canadians won the men's shot put and women's 800 meters events while the United States took the gold of the women's 100 meters.

Panama also won a gold medal in the men's long jump through Irving Saladino, a favorite for the gold medal at August's world championship in Japan.
Irving Saladino was measured at 8.28 meters. Wilfredo Martinez of Cuba was second in 7.92 and Bashir Ramzy of the United States finished third at 7.90. Ivan Pedroso of Cuba, a four-time world champion and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games gold medalist, finished a disappointing fourth at 7.86.
But Tuesday's hero was Churandy Martina of Netherlands Antilles who surprisingly won the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.15 seconds. It was the first gold medal for Netherlands Antilles at these Pan Am Games.
