Brazil, United States win table tennis titles

The United States won the gold medal of table tennis women's team event after beating Canada 3-0 while Brazil upset Argentina 3-1 to for the men's team title at the Pan Am Games on Tuesday.

The women's final was a one-sided match for the American team consisted of Gao Jun, Wang Chen and Tawny Banh.

"It's amazing to leave here with a gold medal. These are my fourth Pan American Games and all have been different. The first match was tight and the result was very interesting. Now it's a matter of practicing for next year's Olympic Games and hope for a performance as good as this one," said Tawny Bahn.

"We played very well today and our experience favored us," said Gao Jun, who used to be a player of China's national team.

Judy Long of Canada was happy about her silver medal: "I'm really happy for this medal, I'm not disappointed at all. We didn't expect for this result. We didn't think we would beat the Dominicans because they're very strong. My opponent is one of the best players in the world and it was an honor to play against her."

Cuba and Dominican Republic shared the bronze medal.

In the men's team final, Brazil beat Argentina 3-1 for the gold. Argentina settled for the silver medal while Canada and the United States tied for the third place.
