German soccer giant Werder Bremen on Tuesday confirmed the signing of Boubacar Sanogo from its Bundesliga rival club Hamburg.
The Cote d'Ivoire striker bagged just four goals in 31 appearances during an unhappy first season with Hamburg last season, but nevertheless did enough to impress Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf, who has signed the 24-year-old on a four-year deal.
The forward joined Hamburg from fellow German outfit Kaiserslautern in the summer of 2006, but suffered a torrid year at the HSH Nordbank Arena, where he was booed by his own fans.
Bremen's capture of Sanogo was confirmed on the club's official website and although the transfer fee was not disclosed.
Speaking to a press conference on Tuesday, Sanogo was quick to play down suggestions that he could be an automatic replacement for the prolific Klose.
"I want to get into the starting XI and show with my performances that signing me was the right move," he said.
"I have my qualities, but am not the new Klose," he added.
Bremen's director of sport Klaus Allofs said that "following Klose's departure, we saw it necessary to move in the attacking department."
"We are absolutely convinced of his qualities and that he will score the necessary goals for us," he added.
