Chinese Liao Xiaoyan won the gold medal of women's hammer throw on Wednesday, the first day of the 17th Asian Athletics Championships held at the Amman International Stadium in the Jordanian capital.
Liao, 23, is from Sichuan province of China. After winning the event with a throw of 60.58 meters, she looks happy and relaxed.
Before the competition, Chinese team leader Kan Fulin said that Chinese are leading the event of hammer throw in Asia.
However, Chinese coach Sun You said, "Liao's performance in the event is not very good because the competitors are not very strong this time." Liao's throw of 60.58 meters is well outside of the Asian championship record of 71.10 and the Asian mark of 74.30.
Kang Na-Ru from South Korea got the silver medal and Huang Chin-Feng of Chinese Taipei won the bronze.
