Kyrgyzstan grabbed its first gold medal at the 17th Asian Athletics Championships on Saturday with Tatiana Efimenko winning the title of women's high jump at the Amman International Stadium.
Efimenko, 26, ranked first with 1.94 meters, which is equal to the record of the championships set by Japanese athlete Imai Miki in 1998. While the Asian record for women's high jump is 1.97 meters shared by Efimenko and two other athletes, Jin Ling from China and Svetlana Zalevskaya of Kazakhstan.
Kazak athletes Yekalerina Yevseyeva and Anna Ustinova were second and third respectively in 1.91 meters, with Yevseyeva succeeding in the first try while Ustinova passing the height at her third try.
Earlier on Friday, Kyrgyzstan won a bronze medal at the event of women's 400m hurdles.
