Dominican takes last table tennis gold at Pan Am Games

Dominican Republic won the last table tennis gold out of the men's singles at the Pan American Games on Saturday.

Lin Ju of Dominican Republic, Pan Am Games defending champion, beat his Argentine opponent Liu Song 4-3 (11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 8-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6) in the final.

The bronze medal was shared by two Brazilians Hugo Hoyama and Thiago Monteiro who lost in the semifinals to Liu Song and Lin Ju respectively.

The United States was the best in the Pan Am Games table tennis tournament with two gold and two bronze medals. The two gold came from women's singles and women's team events.

The Dominican Republic won a gold in the men's singles and also a silver medal in the women's singles and a bronze for the women's team to rank second in the tournament.

Brazil also won a gold in the men's team event and then two bronze medals from the men's singles to finish third behind the Dominican Republic. Yet Hugo Hoyama, a member of the Brazilian team who won the men's team gold, set a Brazilian record of winning the most gold medals in Pan Am Games with 9.

Argentina won two silver medals from the table tennis tournament while Cuba and Canada each got one bronze medal.
