Newcomer forward Miroslav Klose's goal helped Bayern Munich claim a 1-0 win over Schalke 04 on Saturday, earning Bayern the German League Cup for the sixth time in their history.
After a scrappy opening half-hour the Bavarian outfit made the breakthrough and gained the vital upper hand.
Klose, who cost Bayern 12 million euros from rival club Werder Bremen, took advantage of a mix-up between Schalke defender Mladen Krstajic and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to stretch his leg to poke the ball into an unguarded net.
The early one shot is enough for the 20-time German league champion to snatch the pre-season cup.
"That was a victory of the will," said Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld after the match.
"We do not want to overestimate the League Cup win, but we wanted to send out a clear message and we have now beaten the club three teams who finished above us last season," he added.
