Kazak athlete Olga Rypakova broke the tournament record on women's triple jump Saturday at the 17th Asian Athletics Championships held in the Jordanian capital of Amman.
Before the 22-year-old triple jumper from Kazakhstan set the new record of the championships, Rypakova tried three times with the best performance of 14.65 meters, which is already a new record.
With a jump of 14.69 meters at her fourth try, Rypakova broke the championships record of 14.39 meters set by Chinese athlete Huang Qiuyan in Manila in 2003. The Asian record was created by another Chinese player Xie Limei with 14.73 meters this June in Thailand.
Chinese player Sha Li ranked second with a 14.03-meter jump at the event while Rypakova's teammate Irina Utvienko got the bronze medal with 13.80 meters.
After the outstanding performance, Kazakhstan ranked second on the medal standings by Saturday with four golds, one silver and four bronzes.
