The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Mohamed bin Hammam on Sunday announced that Qatar will host the 2011 Asian Cup.

Hammam, who himself came from Qatar, promised to lift the quality of the Asian Cup.

"Asian Cup will be a different one from now on," Hammam said at a news conference. He promised to promote the tournament more in the future.

He admitted there is a concern over the number of spectators for 2011 tournament considering small population of Qatar, but promised to work hard to overcome it.

Qatar was the only country to submit a formal bid to host the event.
