Premier League champions Manchester United sold its England forward Alan Smith to Newcastle United, the club said on Friday.
Smith, who has spent three years at Old Trafford, signed a five-year contract worth about 6 million pounds (12.21 million U.S. dollars) with his new club.
The 26-year-old made 93 appearances for United, scoring 12 goals, but lost first-team regular place last season.
Smith could make his debut in a friendly against Italian club Sampdoria on Sunday at St James' Park, Newcastle said on their website.
