Bangkok World University Games organizers are now worried that the opening ceremony may be disturbed or even stopped by rain.

Avthit Ovrairat, chairman of the committee of the opening and closing ceremony for the 24th Universiade here, admitted on Monday that they would have a problem if it rained very hard.

"Now it is the rain season in Thailand. Yeah, I am worried that it may rain during the opening ceremony," said Avthit during the last rehearsal for the Aug. 8 opening ceremony.

"If it rains lightly, there will be no problem for our performance. But if it rains heavily, I don't know. We have to wait and see," the president of Rangsit University said.

The organizers will provide a raincoat to each spectator in the audience gadget as there are 40,000 expected in the 60,000- capacity Rajamangala National Stadium which played host to some Asian Cup soccer tournament matches last month.

"According to the weather forecast, it may rain in the next three days, so we have to wait and see," he said.

The opening ceremony of Asian Games in Doha, a city surrounded by desert, was disturbed by an unexpected heavy rain, which caused part of the performance to be canceled.
