Thai swimmers who break national records in the Bangkok Universiade will have cash rewards, local media reported Tuesday.

The swimming association of Thailand is willing to award any Thai swimmers who can break the national records with 10,000 Bahts (334.4 US dollars) cash incentives a piece, said the report.

Thailand has sent almost the entire national swimming team for the Games, but is still not strong enough to have shot on any gold medals in the pool.

Thailand's hopes lie on Arvuth Chinnapasaen in the men's 50m freestyle and Thanawat Thanakornvorakiart in the men's 1,500m freestyle events. If both of them can make it to the finals, it's satisfaction beyond the expectation.

A total of 27 Thai swimmers including 14 men will compete for the host country at the Universiade which will open on Aug. 8.
