Myanmar sailing team will take part in two international sailing championships this month, expecting its athletes to get international competition experiences, according to the Myanmar Yachting Federation (MYF) Tuesday.
As a preparation for the 24th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand in December, the Myanmar sailing team will compete in the International 420 Junior European Championship 2007 in the Netherlands scheduled on Aug. 8-16 and the British International 420 Class National Championships 2007 in England from Aug. 18 to 24, the MYF said.
The Myanmar team, comprising four athletes -- two men and two women each, coached by Englishman Collum Mac Donald, left for the Netherlands last Thursday, it said.
Myanmar aims to get two to three gold medals from the sailing event of the upcoming 24th SEA Games, it added.
Meanwhile, to have the chance to make it known its opponent teams' situation before the 24th SEA Games, the Myanmar sailing team, comprising six athletes -- four men and two women, participated in the Singapore National 420 Championship in June.
The MYF was founded in 1958 and Myanmar started participating in the international sailing competition since the Second Southeast Asian Peninsula (SEAP) Games in 1963.
The MYF have got 5 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals from SEA Games since 12th edition in Singapore in 1983.
