The flame of the 24th Universiade was lit on Wednesday night by Thai Royal Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok.

Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana got the torch, after three elite Thai players finished the torch relay in the stadium, and then ignited a small five-storey tower.

The main flame on top of the stadium then began to burn automatically several seconds later.

Fireworks were set off around the stadium, illuminating the night sky and pitched the atmosphere inside the stadium to climax.

The princess is a sports lover and a badminton player. After receiving training in China's national badminton team, she participated in the Doha Asiad last year.
