Madagascar dominated the wrestling competitions at the Indian Ocean Island games on Friday.
Rakotoarilala Francois of the Madagascan team won the 55-kilo group with 6 points knocking out his competitor Payet Laurent from Reunion, who get the silver with 2 points behind.
Francois' colleague, Andriamihaja Heritiana, won over Hoarau Josian, also from Reunion, with little upperhand of the same 5 points in the group of 60 kilos.
Andriamihaja Bernard received 5 points to beat down Reunion's Sellaye Wilfrid in the 66-kilo group while his team mate Rakotoarisoa Elvis knocked out Barret Alexandre, from Reunion.
However, Reunion had the chance to save face with Fontaine Thomas forcing Madagascar's Razafindrahova Fenosoa to kiss the ground in the 74-kilo group.
Reunion's second gold was taken back by Damour Rudy after beating down Albert Christopher from Mauritius in the group of 84 kilos.
Seardiere Emmanuel from the French overseas province expanded their victory in the 120-kilo division following his last knock against Mauritian Cleyven Alexandrine.
Only four of the seven islands sent wrestling teams to the 7th Indian Ocean Island Games with Maldives, Mayotte and Seychelles are missing.
Comoros could only turn back with 2 bronzen medals while the host received a bumper harvest of 4 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronzes.
Frankly speaking, it was a match without very big margin between the host team and that of Mauritius and Reunion, winning 2 silvers and 5 bronze, and 3 golds and 4 silvers seperately.
The Indian Ocean Island Games was open officially on Thursday evening by Madagascan president Marc Ravalomanana and his chief guests Seychelles president James Michel, Comoros Union President Ahmed Abdallah Sambi.
Over 2,000 athletes from Mauritius, Madagascar, Mayotte, Seychelles, Maldives, Reunion and Comoros will compete in Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Cycling, Football, Weightlifting, Judo, Karate, Wrestling, Swimming, Bowling, Taekwondo, Tennis, Table Tennis and Volleyball during the games, which is scheduled to end on August 19.
