KIM Kum Ok gifted the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) the first gold medal at the 24th Universiade on Saturday in the women's half marathon, clocking one hour 12 minutes and 30 seconds.

Japan's Kei Terada failed to outrace her competitive rival from DPRK, and finished the second merely six seconds behind. Another runner of DPRK, Jong Yong Ok, got the third place in 1:13:55.
