Russia continued its powerplay in athletics at 24th Universiade when Alexander Shustov overcame 2.31 meters, claiming the men's high jump gold medal in Bangkok on Saturday.

Cyprus's Kyriacos Ioannou won the silver with 2.26m at the first attempt, beating Oleksandr Nartov of Ukraine, who jumped over the same height at the second attempt, to the third.

Shustov carried on the lonely performance when all the rivals ended their attempts, trying to jump over 2.35m but failed in all three attempts.
