The United States denied China's another attempt for a gold medal in the swimming competition, winning the women's 4x200m freestyle relay at the University Games here on Saturday.
After beating China in the 4x100m free relay on the opening day, the U.S. team received tough challenge from the Chinese for the best seven minutes and 57.87 seconds.
Pang Jiaying closed the gap to 0.02 seconds on the last 50 meters return, but was tired for any further catch-up of American Kaitlin Sandeno, the winner of the 200m individual medley.
China snatched its third silver medal by 7:58.28, while Italy pocketing the bronze on 8:01.11.
"We'd tried our best. This is a better result that the World Championships for China. We have no regret on a silver," Chinese head coach Pan Jiazhang said.
Germany usurped Japan, which won three silver but no gold medals on Saturday, for the second place on the medal table after Helge Meeuw winning the men's 50m backstroke by 25.42.
The U.S. top the medal table by five gold, three silver and three bronze, while Germany on second with 3-0-1. Japan is third with 2-4-1 in the pool.
Jung Seul Ki put South Korea on the board with the victory in the women's 200m breaststroke, swimming 2:24.67.
Andrey Grechin won Russia the second gold in the men's 100m freestyle in a time of 49.29 while American Adam Ritter on second by 49.70.
Canadian Brian Johns took the men's 200m individual medley by 1: 59.97. Canada collected two gold, one silver and two bronze, trailing Russia (2,3,2) on the fifth.
In the other two events, Italy's Federica Pellegrini won the women's 400m freestyle by 4:06.11 and Ukraine's Valerii Dymo nailed down the men's 100m breaststroke by 1:01.27.
