Some judgments made by referees in the Bangkok Universiade taekwondo competitions, which led to Thai players' victories in the past four days, triggered controversy among the rivals, including coaches and players from Iran and Chinese Taipei.
An Iranian player had been asked to leave the auditorium by policemen for throwing a mineral water bottle into the playing area to express his discontentment against the result that his teammate Abbas Sheikhi lost 1-0 to Dech Sutthikunkarn from the host nation in men's 58kg category.
Iranian coach Morteza Bahraminejad said the referees kept a blind eye to the fouls of Dech just because the player was from the host nation.
"It was not fair play," he protested.
He said there were obvious misjudgment.
"The Thai player fell down purposely and went out of the mat for several times, which should lead to point deductions," Bahraminejad said.
However, he said the Iranian delegation would probably not appeal against the result as it wouldn't be changed.
In the second round of men's 62kg division event, the controversial victory of Thai player Nacha Punthong against Lai Ching-chung of Chinese Taipei also triggered chaos on the auditorium as a Chinese Taipei coach hurled bottles into the ground.
Sunday was the fourth day of the five-day taekwondo competition of the Universiade.
