Ukraine became the biggest winners of the day when host Thailand was filled with mixed feelings on Tuesday at the World University Games here.
The Thai men's soccer team received bans for three players and one coach from the International University Sports Federation ( FISU) for their scuffle with the Mexican team, who also had three players banned.
FISU's technical committee for football official John Warnock announced that Thailand's Wisarut Pannasi and Umarin Yaodum and Mexican Daniel Rojas and Marco Valverde each had a two-game ban while Mexico's Diego Lopez was suspended for one game.
Warnock said a post-game review identified that Thailand assistant coach Montri Khrueawan and player Tebarit Junsom also involved in the fight and were both suspended for the rest of the tournament.
Thailand beat Mexico 1-0 on Monday and went on to meet Ukraine in the semifinals.
The good news for the host is that their much-celebrated Asian Games champion Pamang Buoban clinched the women's javelin throw title.
Ukraine collected two track and field gold medals through Yuliya Krevsun in women's 800m and women's 4x400m relay. They also clinched one swimming gold in men's 50m breaststroke and a fencing title in men's epee team event.
China snatched the opening event of the day, taking the men's 20km walk through Chu Yafei before bagging an expected victory in table tennis in the mixed doubles.
Both swimming and track and field concluded their six-day competition.
The United States, bringing in two gold on Tuesday, proved their dominance in the swimming pool with 10 gold, eight silver and eight bronze.
Russia enjoyed most victories on the track and field. With Maxim Sidorov winning the men's shot put, Russia clinched a total of six gold, four silver and six bronze. Ukraine also made a harvest on track and field with 5-6-4.
