The host of 24th Universiade gained the happiest ending of athletics competitions, when the Thai women's javelin thrower Buaban Pamang claimed the title on Tuesday.
Thailand has unexpectedly took the gold medal of men's 4x100m relay on the opending day of athletics, which was the first major title in dash races for the host nation.
Pamang threw a personal best of 61.40 meters, overwhelming the runner-up Monica Stoian of Romania, who also presented her personal best of 61.19m. Poland's Urszula Jasinska finished third in 60.93m.
The 20-year-old Thai thrower from Chiang Rai has stolen the country's spotlight since she won the gold medal in Doha Asian Games last year. She emerged as one of Thailand's major medal hopes in Beijing Olympics, when she continuously won in Asian Championships and Asian Grand Prix.
China proved its dominance in race walk early this morning, when Chu Yafei brought the sports giant the second athletics gold in men's 20km walk, following his compatriot Jiang Qiuyan, who claimed the first gold of Universiade in women's 20km walk.
Chu started the competition with the traditional strategy of following the leading walker, and ourraced his closest rival, Park Chil Sung of South Korea, to take the title in one hour 24 minutes 37 seconds.
The unlucky South Korean walker finished second merely five seconds behind, while Japan's Koichiro Morioka took the bronze medal.
However, Park's compatriot Kim Deok Hyeon managed to contribute the only athletics title to their motherland, when Kim won the men 's triple jump in his seasonal best of 17.02 meters.
Viktor Kuznyetsov finished second in 16.94m, while China's Wu Bo took the third place in 16.64m.
Ukraine became the relatively biggest winner on the last day of athletics competitions, hauling two golds in women's 800m and women's 4x400m relay. Belarus also presented an one-two sweep in men's hammer throw Aliaksandr Vashchyla winning the title in 79.64 meters.
Mohamed Fadil of Morocco took the men's 10,000m gold in his seasonal best of 30 minutes 19.41 seconds and Russia's Maxim Sidorov sealed Russia's gold haul in athletics with the title of men's shot put.
Thanks to Ehan Mohajershojaei's gold in men's 800m, Iran also enjoyed a happy night. Poland claimed the last title in athletics competitions of the 24th Universiade in men's 4x400m relay, clocking 3 minutes 2.65 seconds.
