More than 110 athletes from 17 countries and regions will participate the "Good Luck Beijing" Canoe/Kayak Slalom China Open starts on Thursday in Shun Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park.

The participants include Tony Estanguet, winner of men's C1 Canoe Single in Athens Olympic Games and Jana Dukatova, world No.1 in women's K1 Kayak Single. Chinese Canoe/Kayak team has sent 35 athletes to compete in Shunyi, including all those who will attend Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

Xin Qunying, Vice-President of Chinese Canoe Association, said in a conference here on Wednesday that Chinese Canoe/Kayak team was not at the same level as world powers like Germany and Slovakia.

The aim of Chinese Canoe/Kayak team in this competition is to strive to reach the top ten in each event.

"Beijing residents, especially residents in Shunyi are enthusiastic to watch the competition. All the tickets have already been sold out, and many people without a ticket kept calling the organizers for extra tickets," said Xin.

Beijing Canoe/Kayak Slalom China Open is the second competition to be held in Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park. The newly built Olympic venue has just witnessed the World Rowing Junior Championships which concluded four days ago.
